Liberation of Rome Breakout From Anzio Reenactment in Franklin Grove

The Franklin Grove Area Historical Society presents the Liberation of Rome: Breakout from Anzio WWII Public Battle Reenactment and Encampment on May 15–17, 2026, at Chaplin Creek Historic Village, 1715 Whitney Road in Franklin Grove.

During this immersive living history weekend, the village will be transformed into the Italian town of Castelli Romani, recreating the dramatic moments surrounding Operation Diadem—the Allied offensive that broke the German Gustav Line in May 1944 and led to the liberation of Rome. Visitors can experience realistic WWII encampments, period vehicles, and historically detailed battle reenactments portraying the actions that followed the Anzio breakout.

German and Italian reenacting units will occupy the historic village buildings, while Allied and Commonwealth forces will be encamped in the surrounding woods and open fields, creating a dynamic and educational environment for spectators of all ages.

Public Hours:

• Friday, May 15: 10:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. (student tours ONLY)

• Saturday, May 16: 9 am to 4 pm

• Sunday, May 17: 9 am to 4 pm

Tickets:

Veterans with proof of service per person $5.00, children ages 5 and under Free; Youth Ages 6-12, $5.00, 13 and older per person $10.00.
