The Illinois Lincoln Highway Coalition has produced thirty five Interpretive Murals along the Illinois Lincoln Highway National Scenic Byway and its corridor in northern Illinois.
Cortland’s mural features “The Good Roads Movement” that began with the development of the Lincoln Highway. This painting showcases the dirt and gravel roads evolving into hard-surface concrete roads. The early era of road construction in Cortland is vividly conveyed with an image of the local Cortland area and the crew that was contracted to supply gravel for the pavement project. Interestingly, the mural is installed on a blue metal building that perfectly complements the color scheme of the painting.
