On April 29, 1866, Woodland Cemetery was the site of the first Memorial Day service in Illinois and the first in the nation to honor those who had died in the Civil War.
Now, Memorial Day is celebrated annually at this historical Civil War landmark located in the center of Carbondale. Participate in one of our historical Memorial Day services and learn about the holiday’s originator, General John A. Logan.
