The Farm Crawl is an excellent opportunity for families and friends to meet farmers, see demos, and take tours of local farms in Southern Illinois. Every year the Co-op works with local farmers to create this unique event that is fun and educational for all ages. Farmers will share the history of their farms, talk about crops, livestock, and the unique ups and downs in farming. This kind of interaction gives tremendous insight into the region's agriculture and the food supply in our area. You don't need to be a farmer to enjoy this crawl! So come on out, see the sights and learn about the diverse landscape of farming that Southern Illinois has to offer!!
This year we are doing things a bit differently! We are focusing Saturday's farms in the Northwest region of Southern Illinois and Sunday's farms will be more centralized in our region around the Carbondale area. Stay tuned for more details! Car passes available for purchase starting late July. This event is a self-guided tour. Your pass will give access to farms on the crawl for the region.
A detailed Farm Crawl map and guide will be provided by those who sign up. Purchase a car pass that admits everyone in the vehicle to visit the farms. By visiting the farms of your choice, you can learn first-hand about the various sustainable farming techniques our local farmers use to grow their fruits and vegetables. Subjects could include crop rotation, cover crops, insect and weed control, composting and more. This is also a great chance to get to meet local family farmers face-to-face.
