Olmsted Society Historic Walking Tour

Looks like this event has already taken place.

,

90 Bloomingbank Road, Riverside, IL 60546

The Fredrick Law Olmsted Society offers regular monthly tours. Come see the preservation of Olmsted’s vision for Riverside and catch a glimpse of his concern for humanity, nature, community and the innovative and thoughtful essence of his work.

The entire village of Riverside , Illinois was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1970, and for good reason; it is one of the most beautiful, relaxing, and liveable places anywhere, and a must see destination for visitors from around the world. They are attracted by its flowing landscape, designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, America’s first and most famous Landscape Architect; its more than 150 years of rich architectural history, with homes by famous architects like Frank Lloyd Wright, William LeBaron Jenney and Howard Van Doren Shaw; and its fascinating, sometimes notorious, residents down through the years.

We are happy to report the full resumption of Olmsted Society tours, with requests for reservations required via our website. We continue to offer our regular monthly tours. These two-hour tours depart at 2:00 PM from the main Riverside Train station, south side of BNSF RR tracks, east side of platform, located at Bloomingbank Rd. at Riverside Rd. We also offer customized, special tours, on request, and at any time, for our local, out of town, and international visitors. These are normally $25 per person and require a pre arranged deposit.
