Stockton is the eastern gateway to Jo Daviess County, a part of the driftless area of Northwestern Illinois. It is the home of the first Kraft Cheese plant and an early hub of the Chicago Great Western Railroad.
The Stockton Heritage Museum is a nonprofit organization, whose mission is to collect and preserve the oral, written, and pictorial memoirs and data of the past, relating to Stockton and Northwestern Illinois; to assemble and display artifacts that provide a window into Stockton's past; to encourage and aid individuals interest in historical research; and to present programs that share the stories and rich history of Stockton and the area. Exhibits include the Chicago Great Western Railroad, N-scale model trains, Kraft Foods History and History of the Stockton area.
