The Green Wall Bar & Grill is the first restaurant to serve alcohol in Franklin, IL in 100 years!
Franklin has been a dry town since prohibition. Before prohibition there was a brewery on the same block as the current “Green Wall”. Soon after prohibition began the building that housed the brewery had a fire leaving a massive hole where the brewery once stood. To protect pedestrians using the sidewalk, the Village built a wall in front of the hole. The wall was eventually painted green and soon became a popular spot for area youth to hang out.
The wall is no longer standing but the Hamilton family named their restaurant after the memories of the wall. Now residents and visitors to Franklin can once again gather at “The Green Wall” and legally enjoy an adult beverage.
