The George Rogers Clark Discovery Trail spans Fort Massac State Park, featuring historic views, wooded rail-trail paths, picnic areas, and Illinois’ longest prefab pedestrian bridge. Check conditions during high water.
The George Rogers Clark Discovery Trail runs entirely through historic Fort Massac State Park—Illinois’ first state park, established over 100 years ago. Beginning near the recreated 1757 fort and visitor center, the trail follows a low-traffic shared-use roadway before transitioning to a concrete rail-trail on a former Illinois Central Gulf Railroad bed. Highlights include scenic views of the Ohio River, wooded bottomlands, picnic areas, and Illinois’ longest prefab pedestrian bridge over Seven Mile Creek. Trail conditions may vary seasonally.
