Chicago-based Hiplet Ballerinas fuse classical pointe technique with urban dance styles including African, Latin, and Hip-Hop.
Their show was specifically designed to make ballet accessible to all by mixing the traditional dance style with current, popular songs that will be familiar to all audiences.Hiplet's performances incorporate the rhythms of African drums with Tchaikovsky, arabesques and beat-boxing, and even Tango en pointe—all while showcasing Hiplet's trademark sass, hip movements, and struts—against recognizable popular music from Black Violin to Beyoncé and Prince.
