Rockford Park District's Atwood Center invites all ages to experience In the Outdoors presented by Rock River Disposal, a series of free in-person activities held select Saturdays through September 18, 2021, rain or shine.
June 12, 2021, 9-11 am: Outdoor DIY: Bow Drill Edition -Learn about primitive items, and try to make a fire-starting bow drill, to gain some perspective on what life used to be like for those that hiked this land in the past.
July 17, 2021, 9-11 am: Kishwaukee Critters - Catch crayfish, bluegill, and invertebrates, for up-close, hands-on observation with Atwood’s skilled staff. Learn about creatures that live in the Kishwaukee River, and run a few scientific tests to check the river’s health.
August 28, 2021, 9-11 am: Camping 101: Creating an Outdoor Oasis - Learn ways to enjoy life outside by setting up a tent, starting a fire, and packing for a hike, along with some basic first aid.
