The Mautino State Fish & Wildlife Area is located in Bureau County south of Sheffield.
The Mautino State Fish and Wildlife Area encompasses 871 acres of mostly unreclaimed strip-mining land. The area is dotted with some 15 stocked lakes for fishing. Be aware that shore access is limited and that shorelines tend to drop off suddenly into deep water.
The road inside the park is closed to vehicular traffic for the time being due to repairs. Park goers can still park at the parking lot, but then must walk to the back to access the lakes, etc.
