Springfield celebrates Juneteenth with several days of events
The Juneteenth Celebration is more than just a party in the park but it’s now a multi-day celebration full of education, community engagement, and free entertainment. Events happen at various locations throughout Springfield.
Here are some of the highlights:
On June 12th The Illinois State Museum will hold a Juneteenth Family Day Celebration at the Old State Capitol (1 S Old State Capitol Plaza)
On June 13th, the Juneteenth Unity Parade kicks off at 10am at Martin Luther King Jr Drive & South Grand Ave. Watch community organizations, bands, dance teams and more march in celebration of the holiday.
On June 13th & 14th, Comer Cox Park (Capitol Ave & Martin Luther King Jr Dr) hosts the Juneteenth Celebration. Join the celebration with food, games, music, prizes and more.
On June 18th at 6pm, come to the Y-block in downtown Springfield (4th St & Jackson St) and bring your lawn chairs for the Juneteenth Levitt Amp Concert.
On June 19th both the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum (212 N 6th Street) & Henson Robinson Zoo (1100 E. Lake Shore Drive) will host free admission in celebration of Juneteenth
