What is home to you? A new exhibit entitled June’s Room adds a new story of home to the Illinois State Museum’s history exhibition At Home in the Heartland.
Virtual Event
It presents the teenage experiences of Vincent “June” Chappelle who grew up on the south side of Chicago. As an alternative queer Black teen who was adopted by his grandparents as a baby, June’s bedroom was sanctuary of safety and self-expression. See the exhibition virtually and hear June talk about his experiences, why he worked on this project, and how he hopes audiences identify with his past. June will be joined by ISM Curator of History Erika Holst who will discuss her experiences working on the project and how it fits into the Museum’s commitment to be more inclusive in its storytelling.
This is a free, virtual program. Registration is required in advance at https://bit.ly/RoomTalk.
