Learn how to forge steel using blacksmith techniques from experienced Blacksmiths.
The Jefferson County Historical Society will host a blacksmithing workshop on Saturday March 12, 2022 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This demonstration will be led by Illinois Valley Blacksmith Association Mentor John Lovin and Journeyman Bladesmith Ken Markley. John will use basic and intermediate blacksmith techniques to forge a shovel, fire poker, and several styles of candle holders. Ken will forge a knife and discuss steels, heat treating, grinding, and installing handles. The cost of the workshop is $10.00 with all proceeds to benefit the Blacksmith Shop, to continue the tradition of hosting monthly classes with open forge time. Registration and payment of fee can be made the day of the workshop.
