Horseshoe Mound Preserve

Take in some of the best views in Galena Country at Horseshoe Mound Preserve, a nearly 200-acre nature preserve located just outside Galena, Illinois. Managed by the Jo Daviess Conservation Foundation, this scenic outdoor destination offers hiking trails, restored natural areas, and panoramic views of the rolling landscape of the Driftless Region.

Explore trails that wind through prairie, oak savanna, and unique rock outcroppings leading to scenic overlooks with views of downtown Galena, the Mississippi River, and the surrounding countryside. At the main gathering area, viewing scopes offer a closer look across the landscape, where on a clear day you can see portions of Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin.

Visit the Cooke, Mills, and Spiroff overlooks for different perspectives of the surrounding hills and valleys, or simply find a quiet spot to enjoy the scenery.
