The Forest Preserve District of Will County’s Isle Cache Museum in Romeoville immerses visitors in the region’s cultural heritage and natural history. The museum transports visitors back to the 18th century, when "Illinois Country" was home to the fur trade and French voyageurs and Potawatomi intertwined. Feel the softness of a beaver pelt, see canoes built of birch bark and walk inside a wigwam. While you are there, explore the live exhibit showcasing state-endangered Blanding’s turtles up close. Then venture outside to experience the Native Lifeways exhibit, which brings the 18th-century fur trade era to life and is a continuation of the indoor exhibits. The museum features engaging public programs, immersive school and youth group experiences, hands-on interactive exhibits, picnic shelter rentals, a unique gift shop, and complimentary District publications and trail maps.
